Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester) has successfully secured $750,000 in federal funding for critical upgrades to the heating and cooling system at the municipal recreation center in South Toms River. The funding, signed into law as part of a negotiated budget, will ensure that the center remains operational and continues to support the community.
“The South Toms River recreation center is a centerpiece of services, support, and outreach offered to residents in the South Toms River community,” stated Rep. Smith, highlighting the importance of the facility to the local residents.
South Toms River Mayor Oscar Cradle expressed gratitude towards Rep. Smith, saying, “This funding means so much to our community. I’d like to thank Chris Smith for everything he does for us here in South Toms River, and it is very much appreciated.”
Council President Sandy Ross also expressed excitement about the funding, emphasizing its significance for the small municipality. “As a small municipality, these funds are a tremendous help and will ensure this community center remains open for the many groups who use it,” Ross remarked.
The funds secured by Rep. Smith will be combined with $150,000 committed by the Borough to cover the total project cost of $900,000. The upgrades will include the replacement of aging air handling units with new heating and cooling units, as well as other necessary modifications to the building's infrastructure.
